White Water Rafting

White Water Rafting!  Great Fun, Great Times, and Terrific Scenery are just part of the story on these wonderful weekend escapes.   Twice a year, AltCamping invites other clubs and interested people to join us on trips to West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Canada, North Carolina, or Tennessee to experience the thrill of white water rafting.

Since Michigan does not have commercially run white water rafting trips, we get to travel and see other areas.  You do not need to be a member to join us on these trips and everyone is welcome to join us.

Memorial Day Weekend – On Memorial Day Weekend we do our spring rafting/camping trip.  The agenda is usually to travel on Friday, sightsee in the area we are going to on Saturday, raft on Sunday, and return home on Monday.  Campfires, meals, and adventure bring people together and help everyone get to know one another.  We also play games and party together as a group.    If you cannot travel on Friday you can still join the group on Saturday and partake of the fun.    This trip rotates from river to river.

Columbus Day Weekend - October – On Columbus Day Weekend we head to Wild, Wonderful West Virginia for rafting on the Upper Gauley.  The Gauley River is rated by many as one of the best 10 whitewater trips in the world.  Relying on the scheduled fall release dates by the Army Corps. Of Engineers, this dam-controlled watershed is regulated to insure optimum flow for rafting.  The Upper Section of the Gauley River is truly considered "world-class" and beckons serious whitewater enthusiasts. Continuous rapids demand your attention as you maneuver through narrow chutes and rocky ledges. This is non-stop whitewater action. Previous rafting experience is strongly recommended BUT NOT REQUIRED.  2004 will be our sixth year for this trip and experienced members will be in each raft.  Life Jackets, helmets, and experienced guides will make sure you have a fun but safe time.  Space is limited and payment in full is needed for us to make a reservation for you.  Don't miss out on this trip - it's fun and great white water at a great price for this trip.  We have an exceptional outfitter that we use for this trip and we get a great deal from them.  They have good equipment and well-trained guides.  Rafting is on Saturday and dinner on Saturday night is included (steak, chicken, or swordfish).  Camping is at the outfitters campground.  Rental cabins and nearby motels and hotels are also available.  There is a lot to see and do in this beautiful area of WV.  Non-rafters are welcome and will have a great time exploring the area.  Lots of hiking and mountain biking trails, sightseeing flights of the area take off from nearby, a National Park Service Visitors Center, and much more keeps everyone busy.

If you are interested in our white water rafting trips, please consider signing up for our raft trip email list.  You'll receive updates on our trips along with an invitation to join us for either of these terrific trips in 2003.  To join the list please send an email to AltCamping_Rafting-subscribe@topica.com or visit http://www.topica.com/lists/AltCamping_Rafting/subscribe/?location=listinfo
